International Watersheds Initiative 25th Anniversary Report

About the Project: The International Watersheds Initiative (IWI) helps communities along the Canada-U.S. border work together to solve shared water issues by supporting local projects that focus on the environment. Their 25th anniversary report showcased the organization’s important work. The report was 24 pages long in both English and French for print and digital.

Project Goals: The goal of the International Watersheds Initiative 25th anniversary report was to clearly communicate a significant amount of technical information (including charts, photographs and tables) within a 24-page print report, in both English and French.

Design Solution: The final design solution featured subtle references to water and waves, for example in the fluid swoosh of the folios. A three-column grid with images spanning multiple columns allowed for maximum legibility of the text while highlighting the photos and graphics.

My Process: I began this project by doing a thorough inventory of the project assets to fully understand the type of information I would be working with. Once this was completed, I created three draft layouts for the front and back cover and an inside spread that communicated the theme of environmental stewardship. Once the client selected their preferred option, I moved forward with laying out the report in English and French, carefully ensuring that all information was presented equally in both official languages without going over the page limit.

Project Outcomes: The project was delivered on time and on budget to the satisfaction of the client.
